Mid-City’s Prescott School Forest

Cultivating Wellness on Campus

Pocket Forest

Biodiversity
City

This 900 sq feet  pocket forest will be created in an elementary school in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Designed by  horticulturist Katherine Pakradouni, this forest will provide a biodiverse garden in a neighborhood with few trees and parks due to historical  redlining.

This project will be the first of its kind to showcase a densely planted native pocket forest method on a Los Angeles Unified School campus and will offer students a hands-on learning experience about the connection between local plants, indigenous history, and the significance of supporting local wildlife and pollinators.

While the district is increasingly supportive of greening initiatives, this project will serve as a shining example of what is possible on school campuses.

“The pocket forest at Mid-City’s Prescott will be an amazing attraction and living laboratory lending to the school’s science focus. The green space will promote clean air as well as a feeling of peace, tranquility, and emotional well-being.”
