Aghmad Gamieldien
Aghmad Gamieldien is the Founder of Mzanzi Organics, a social enterprise focusing on small-scale farming, and the creation of pocket forests in & around Cape Town, South Africa.
Aghmad uses nature to bring people together, and to build confidence and aspiration. He works closely with both indigenous and township communities in Cape Town, teaching them about endemic species and land stewardship. He wants the people he works with to feel empowered and to have the belief that they can make a positive impact on their neighborhood, how it looks and how they operate within it.
He sees Forest Making and the rewilding of public spaces in the city and suburbs as a means of addressing the complex and sensitive history around land in South Africa. Bringing people together to plant trees is a way of connecting with the earth and looking to the future.
