Michael Waiyaki is the Founder and CEO of Miti Alliance, a social enterprise operating in Kenya focusing on planting and growing trees whose mission is to “Green Kenya one tree at a time.”

Michael started off planting trees about 10 years ago as a youth then later as a president and club member of a Rotaract club in Nairobi Kenya. With fellow members they had fire in their bellies to make a difference in Kenya for the love they had for the environment. Later on, he realized that caring for the environment was truly his life calling and was determined to continue doing so. In 2018, Michael founded Miti Alliance – Miti means trees in Swahili.

Through the Miti Schools programme Michael and his team focus on empowering students in primary and secondary schools with knowledge on Biodiversity, Ecosystems, sustainability, climate change, SDG’s and many other environmental topics. After this engagement they plant trees in the schools and each of the students that participate in the activities adopt a tree and they follow it up to full growth by watering and caring for it.

The goal of Miti is to Sustain Life by empowering the society to understand that it is we humans who need nature and not nature needing us. Therefore safeguarding the environment is the sole responsibility of each generation that will walk on the face of the earth.
