Tour & Taxis Forest
A Miyawaki pocket forest in the heart of Brussels
SUGi’s Tour & Taxis Forest will be situated in central Brussels, near the vibrant, cultural hub that is the Tour and Taxis complex. The area has a rich industrial history and played an integral part in the economic development of the city over the last 500 years.
The site is part of a large regeneration project spearheaded by the world-renowned Bureau Bas Smets, and SUGi is delighted to be collaborating with them & Nicolas de Brabandère in this endeavour. The development will see a new residential neighbourhood in the centre of Brussels with 12 hectares of parkland. Our Tour & Taxis Forest will be situated within this parkland.

“Brussels is my home city. It's a dream come true to create an urban forest at its very heart. During the 19th century, Belgium experienced intense economic and industrial growth. Nowadays, it is turning into a grand park with historical buildings for fairs and culture where everyone can meet. I am honoured to add a touch of its wild spirit in the form of a lush forest full of life and inspiration for the new generation.”

“The Miyawaki forest will complete the different landscape strategies deployed over the last 10 years for the reconversion of the former industrial site of Tour & Taxis into a lush evolutive landscape.”
— Bas Smets, Founder - Bureau Bas Smets
Forest Design
This SUGi Pocket Forest will support biodiversity in a highly urbanised area and create a corridor where wildlife can thrive. The density of the forest will help to reduce air pollution and allow local residents to breathe cleaner air. It will also provide a sheltered, shady space to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, offering some respite from busy, city life.
