This project aims to establish a Miyawaki forest at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, creating a vibrant and biodiverse green space on campus.

The forest will enhance air quality, mitigate the effects of climate change, and promote biodiversity conservation. It will serve as an outdoor learning environment, encouraging research, education, and community engagement.

Through this initiative, the university will exemplify its commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the well-being of its students, faculty, and surrounding community.

Native species selection:

The Banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) is an iconic and majestic tree native to India and Southeast Asia. It’s known for its sprawling growth with aerial roots that create multiple trunks and it sustains diverse wildlife.
The Indian beech (Millettia pinnata) is a fast-growing, evergreen tree native to India and Southeast Asia. It bears fragrant flowers and leathery seed pods with oil-rich seeds and is admired for its ecological benefits.
The White mulberry (Morus alba) is a charming and versatile tree, cherished for its sweet fruits, attractive foliage, and significant cultural significance in various parts of the world.

Who is Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada?

Dr. Ambedkar, Father of Indian Constitution, was a man of great vision, who fought for a social reconstruction on the basis of equality, social and economic justice, and above all, the establishment of a classless society.

He was convinced that education in general and legal education in particular would create a strong sense of rights anddignity in individual human beings.
